RadioFaders Installation05/30/2005 |
XP users first run the setup package, some versions of XP with not have the Old Media Player OCX file, included in the setup package is a version of the Medial Player From Microsoft, execute the setup from our installation package, you will most likely get an OCX error on run. During setup it may say that there is already a newer version of Media Player, however it will have still loaded the old OCX file. Restart Radio Faders and the error should be gone
If you are installing this on Sever 2003 see the FAQ's sheet on Audio Services (You must start the service on 2003)
If you get key not found our unable to authorize. Then make sure that your have the file as "c:\wts\Programs\Key.txt" and a current key. If you do not have a current key, then please E-Mail the address on the home page for a current key.
After running setup. Faders Creates a Folder in your C drive. The structure is C:\Faders\Stream1\ and so on. In this structure you will find the "Music" folder. Move any music (.mp3) into this directory in folders labeled with the Genre of the music.
After running setup. Faders Creates a Folder in your C drive. The structure is C:\Faders\Stream1\ and so on. In this structure you will find the different Spots-Legals-Promos folders. Move any Spots-Legals-Promos into the appropriate folder. When you cut the spots leave two seconds of empty space at the end of each spot for segue time.
In windows turn off all sounds for Windows Operations. This includes mouse clicks, warning beeps etc. Otherwise those sounds will go over air when actuated.
In the windows Volume control. Turn up the Master and Wave Sliders to full. Disable or turn down all other sliders.
Create a short cut in startup to the Startup Menu. This will restart RadioFaders should the computer ever have a power failure. Also, in the bios settings for the computer change the option for power on to on after fail. (Some systems will not restart). We have a program called HangNail.exe. That will automatically reboot windows should a file be filed to be written to after a period of time. This program may be helpful if you have a system that for some reason wants to hang every once in a while. It wont keep it from hanging, but it will keep a lot of dead air off the radio.
From Start - Programs - Faders Click on Faders. The program will automatically boot up with any music in Random Mode and start Playing. It will automatically play legals at the top of the hour, Spots and Promos intermixed with music, You can modify these settings in the preferences menu.
The only way to shut down faders is by selecting File-End or File-End after this cut. We prevented the (x) box on the corner from closing the program down, habit sometimes gets the best of us all.
This happens when a cut is recorded to .mp3 or other formats, make sure that the cut ends as it should, if the problem persist then you can add 2 seconds of silence to the end of the cut and this will prevent the cross fader from "talk over" on the cut. There are other solutions by using music cut evaluator, see the notes there for help on this. Also you may choose to use a music editor to edit the cut.
Again sometimes when a cut is recorded to .mp3 or other formats an error in the recording is made. Check the cut for accuracy. Also the program uses the Microsoft Medial Player OCX files to play music sometimes these .dlls make mistakes, there is no known way to fix this yet, but we are working on it. Our experience is about 1 in a 1000 plays for this error to happen, if you are getting more frequent errors like this, simulate the program on another P.C. and see if you get the same issue, you may try reloading your O.S or check the cooling fan on your CPU that can cause all sorts of funny things to happen.
Again sometimes when a cut is recorded to .mp3 errors happen in the processing of the final cut, as in too much fade out time. This can be fixed using music cut evaluator. Also you may choose to use a music editor to edit the cut.
We cant help you here if its not the RadioFaders program, but we do have some suggestions, check your PC CPU fan. Also we distribute a program called HangNail.exe that will check the faders log and if it fails to have an entry written to it in a timely manner it will restart the computer. This does mean a bit of dead air while the P.C. restarts but its better than a whole night of dead air.
See the page Log Errors to determine the error and how to reduce these.
If the file that the week grid does not exist or is misnamed then faders will revert to a random blend. This is to prevent dead air. Check the file name very carefully in WeekGrid to make sure it is still there or correctly named.
When RadioFaders looks through the Specials directory it will only list Items beginning with the characters "1-" example. "1-BBCNewshour.mp3". It is expected that you will name your main program in the specials folder in accordance with the RadioFaders naming conventions. Essentially you main program in a specials folder of your choice, should start with the "1-" prefix. If you need an intro to the program to play first then name the intro... "0-BBCnewsIntro.mp3". For more help on this see the week grid. or week grid codes.
If your installing RadioFaders on 2003 make sure that you have the Windows Audio service set to automatic and started in the Administrative tools - Services. You can test this by trying to execute an audio file in Media Player. It may come back with an invalid hardware dialog box. This is an indication of the audio services and not RadioFaders. Start audio services then test Media Player, once media player works then RadioFaders will operate normally
Operation Errors Program Downloader (Report)
RadioFaders supports Files named "Artist - Track Title - Genre.mp3". Future releases will support other file compression types. You may use cuts without this naming convention however some features will fail to work correctly. Music Cut Evaluator will correct any titles that are misnamed.
