If the you can ping out by an Address but, not by Name, try this:

 

Win95/98/ME

 

  1. Right-click the Network Neighborhood icon on the Desktop then click Properties. (Or, click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Double-click Network icon / Configuration tab.
  2. Double-click TCP/IP bound to the NIC (TCP/IP-> NIC) (or highlight it and click Properties.)

  1. Click the DNS Configuration tab.
  2. Select Enable DNS.
  3. Type WOW in the Host box. (You can leave the Domain box blank.)
  4. Enter the Primary DNS server address for an area other than the one for the customer’s area into the DNS Server Search Order box and click the Add button. Also enter the Secondary for all Midwest into the DNS Server Search Order box and click the Add button.

  1. Click OK.

  1. If prompted, put in the Windows 95/98/ME CD (unless the customer never got one, such as Compaq, eMachine or, HP owners- they have all Windows files installed on the hard drive.) If Windows cannot find some files, try pointing to one of the following locations:

C:\Windows\Options\Cabs

C:\Windows\System

C:\Windows

  1. When prompted, Restart the computer.
  2. Open IE and try to surf now.

  1. Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Double-click Network icon / Protocols tab.
  2. Double-click TCP/IP Protocol or highlight it and click Properties.

3.      Click the DNS tab.

4.      Type WOW in the Host Name box.

  1. Enter the Primary DNS server address for an area other than the one for the

customer’s area into the DNS Server box and click the Add button.

7.      Click the Add button and enter the Secondary for the area into the DNS Server box and click the Add button.

8.      Click the WINS Address tab.

9.      Check the box Enable DNS for Windows Resolution.

 

 

 

10. Click OK.

11. Click OK.

12. When prompted, Restart the computer.

  1. Open IE and try to surf now.

  1. Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections icon.
  2. Double-click the active LAN connection and click Properties button.
  3. Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) or highlight it and click Properties.

4.      Select Use the following DNS server addresses

  1. Enter the Primary DNS server address for an area other than the one for the customer’s area in the Preferred DNS server box and enter the Secondary for all Midwest in the Alternate DNS server box.

  1. Click the OK button.
  2. When prompted, Restart the computer.
  3. Open IE and try to surf now.
